President-elect Donald Trump will inherit a nation that is seen as stronger and more dependable than it was four years ago, according to US President Joe Biden, who stated on Monday that his leadership of US foreign policy has made the US safer and more economically secure, reports Breaking News.
In a broad speech to consider his foreign policy legacy a week before handing over the White House to Mr. Trump, Mr. Biden praised his administration’s efforts to strengthen American chip manufacturing to better compete with China, expand NATO, and mobilise allies to give Ukraine military assistance to fight Russia.
The complex hypothetical that American voters once again turned to Mr. Trump and his protectionist worldview would, at least in the short term, cast a shadow over and influence Mr. Biden’s case for his accomplishments, reports Breaking News.
Additionally, a number of conflicts are raging across the world at the time he leaves office.
“Thanks to our administration, the United States is winning the worldwide competition compared to four years ago,” Mr Biden said in his address at the State Department, reports Breaking News.
“America is stronger. Our alliances are stronger. Our adversaries and competitors are weaker. We have not gone to war to make these things happen,” reports Breaking News.
International crises, including the chaotic US withdrawal from Afghanistan, Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine, and Hamas’ 2023 attack on Israel that sparked the Middle East war, swiftly put the one-term Democrat’s plans to mend alliances strained by four years of Mr. Trump’s America First worldview to the test. The Democrat took office during the worst global pandemic in a century, reports Breaking News.
According to Mr. Biden, he offered stability when the world most needed it. Miscalculation, disaster, and conflict put him to the test.
“My administration is leaving the next administration with a very strong hand to play,” Mr Biden said. “America is once again leading,” reports Breaking News.
Mr. Biden’s campaign pledge to end America’s longest conflict was realised in 2021 when the US completed its withdrawal from Afghanistan.
However, the 20-year struggle came to an unsettling conclusion when the US-backed Afghan government fell, a horrific bombing claimed the lives of 170 US soldiers and 13 Afghans, and hundreds of desperate Afghans flocked to Kabul’s airport to seek refuge before the last US plane took off over the Hindu Kush.
Just eight months into his administration, Mr. Biden suffered a significant setback from which he found it difficult to bounce back: the Afghanistan fiasco, reports Breaking News.
