New Olympic rules allows transgender athletes to compete in category they identify without having had surgery

The International Olympic Committee has announced a change to its rules that will allow transgender athletes to compete without having gender reassignment surgery.

This means that men who self-identify as women will be able to compete in female competitions and vice-versa.

The Olympic Committee had previously ruled that transgender athletes have to have gender reassignment surgery and have legal recognition of the gender they were assigned at birth in order to compete in sex category with which they identify.

The new Olympic rules come at a time when female sports are increasingly being dominated by biological men who identify as women.
