The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, better known as the Oscars, has set forth new guidelines for film makers hoping to win Best Picture which will rule out movies with too many white people in front of and behind the camera.

Films will be ranked as A, meaning they have met the demands to have less people of European heritage involved in making and producing them, B1 meaning non-white people had key roles in creative leadership and as department heads and B2, non-whites played other key roles.

The vaguest standard, D, which refers to audience development, is described as follows
“The studio and/or film company has multiple in-house senior executives from among the following underrepresented groups in marketing, publicity and distribution.”

There are fears that films will now be judged firstly on the skin tone and ethnicity of those who star in and produce it rather than its actual quality.
