Speaking at an event today, the Taoiseach said that the Government is working to draft a new proclamation as part of next year’s centenary of the 1916 rising.

Also, the historic site in Moore Street in Dublin will be purchased by the State and developed as a commemorative centre.

Details of the commemorative programme for the celebrations will be announced at Collins Barracks tonight.

Enda Kenny said the public will be asked to play their part too.

He said “What we want to do out of the series of commemorative events is right across the country, engage our people – young and not so young – both in their reflections on the proclamation, [and] on the drafting of a new proclamation … a whole series of issues in the Irish language, in culture, in music, in literature.”
