New proposals discussed in the Dail that will see parental leave being extended from 18 to 26 weeks

A new Bill that will see the length of parental being extended has been forward before the Dail this afternoon.

The new Bill which will see parental leave being extended to 26 weeks from the original 18 weeks is being put toward by the Social Democrats.

It is thought the latest proposals which yet to see any objections within the Dail could be put in place in the coming weeks ahead dividing there are no obstacles put in place along the way.

The Bill which could also be backed by the Government’s plan to introduce paid parental leave, has been put forward by the party who say the current period is not long enough.

A spokesperson for the party claims that by introducing the extended period of leave, parents will be able to spend more time with their children rather trying to juggle their time by immediately going back to work when their newborn is still in the bonding process.

They added the current economic climate has forced new parents to return to work early as they cannot afford to be at home with their child.
