New report finds complaints about illegal online activity doubled in the year 2014

According to a report an online website which is used to report illegal activity on the internet, has received almost twice as many complaints in 2014 than the year 2013.

The report states that over 300 reported incidents were that of online child abuse. The website called Hotline.ie also received numerous of other complaints regarding illegal activity, the reported incidents apparently included financial scams, child grooming and strong material which promoted violence.

The startling news has been received by the Minister for Justice Frances Fitzgerald who says those caught producing or sharing such material will be severely punished, Ms Fitzgearld said: “We want to welcome the fact that people are reporting, and that the public can do something in relation to it.,” “It is a reality unfortunately. There is very serious abuse and international criminal activity in terms of abusing children online. She added: “They are selling both photographic and video images of children actually being abused, which is a very serious criminal offence, and its being dealt with both nationally and internationally.”
