New research claims up to 80% of deportation orders in Ireland are never actioned despite massive resources being used to secure deportation orders

There are considerable State resources and monies put into obtaining deportation orders but new research has proven that these deportation orders are not being actioned.

According to research carried out by The Burkean spanning the years 2015 to 2020, a massive 81.1% of official deportation orders were never actioned. It’s extremely difficult and arduous to get a deportation order and questions are being asked why so many are not being actioned by the Irish authorities after full due process has taken place.

Using a Freedom of Information request, The Burkean obtained official statistics from the Department of Justice regarding 7,496 actual deportation orders issued by the state.

Fewer Than 20% Of Deportation Orders Actually Actioned

Whilst Nigerians topped the list of deportees, Pakistani nationals were the largest contingent which deportation orders were issued to 1,815 orders promulgated by the Department, of which 172 (9.5%) were actually enacted.
Since 2015, the Republic witnessed a ten-fold increase in the number of asylum applications from Pakistan, driven by Pakistanis escaping immigration control in the UK reports The Burkean.
