New study finds that young boys and men have resorted to skipping meals and turn to steroid abuse in order to have the ideal body image

A new study has shown that young boys and men are so concerned about their body image and appearence that they have resorted to skipping meals and turned to steroid abuse.

The alarming news comes after the advertising industry conducted a study which has found that more than half of young boys advertising puts them under increased pressure to look good.

Meanwhile Bodywhys an organisation that deals with body image issue’s also reported an increase in the number of young people looking for help.

The new study marks a startling trend that now shows it’s not just women who have major self esteem problems when it comes to their body image and appearance.

According to Harriet Parsons of Bodywhyps all people need to know boys and men can be affected too: “It’s something that we are hearing about more and more, we are getting more requests from boys schools to do that type of work with them.

“When we are talking about eating disorders and men it is almost like there is a double stigma there, not only are there all the barriers about talking about what is going on with them but also there is the idea that an eating disorder is perceived to be a female issue.

“And that makes it hard for people to come forward.”
