New Ukrainians coming into Ireland will be given €38.80 per week intead of €220 a week that Ukrainians already living here get

Weekly welfare rates for new arrivals from war-torn Ukraine will reduce to €38.80 per week from €220 per week, and state-provided accommodation will be limited to 90 days, under plans which ministers will consider this week, reports Independent.

The proposals are not yet agreed upon but will get discussed by the coalition leaders and senior ministers at the Cabinet’s Ukraine committee tomorrow and, if approved by the whole Cabinet, require legislative changes in the new year.

The Sunday Independent has confirmed that the Equality Minister, Roderic O’Gorman, is reintroducing a proposal to impose a 90-day restriction on accommodation, reports Independent.

This proposition initially faced opposition from cabinet colleagues when he proposed it in October.

Alongside this measure, the government is also presenting plans to align the state’s welfare provisions for Ukrainian refugees with those available to asylum seekers in direct provision. As of now, asylum seekers receive €38.80 per week for an adult and €29.90 per week for a child, reports Independent.
