A bit of common sense: David Norris says there’s no “enormous threat from the far right” in this country

Outgoing independent senator David Norris recently stated in an interview with RTÉ’s The Week in Politics that he does not believe that the far-right poses an “enormous threat” to Ireland.

He argued that Ireland has a “strong, healthy, and democratic” parliamentary establishment.

Senator Norris also commented on the recent riots in Dublin, which happened close to his home in the north inner city.

He said that it was “extraordinary the amount of damage that a small and insignificant number of people” could inflict and criticized the government for not investing in his area in recent years.

However, he clarified that he did not believe that this lack of investment was linked to the recent violence.

Senator Norris questioned why the government is not utilizing the “awash with money” public coffers to invest in his area.

Senator David Norris is Ireland’s longest-serving senator, having served for 36 years in the upper house.

When asked about his political legacy, he stated that it was for others to decide and that he is more focused on the future.
