New York authorities are stepping up security surrounding the city’s Jewish community after a series of attacks on Jewish New Yorkers in the last several weeks including one incident in which five people who had gathered in a rabbi’s home in a Hanukkah celebration were stabbed.

The attack, allegedly carried out by a man named Thomas Grafton who is accused stormed into the home of Rabbi Chaim Rottenberg, where roughly 60 people had gathered for a candle-lighting ceremony for Hanukah is described as an “act of domestic terrorism” by NY Governor Andrew Cuomo .

This follows multiple anti-Semitic attacks including one earlier in December when six people were killed, two attackers, one policeman and three civilians, in a gun attack on a Kosher market just across the Hudson from New York City in Jersey City.

However, some Twitter users are predictably not happy with the move to increase police protection for Jewish communities due to the identity of the alleged attackers with one twitter user, Emily Hoffman (@emchoffman) summing up the opposition, tweeting

“Deployment of cops to protect Jewish people from Back & Latinx folks sounds like a white nationalist’s dream scenario.” As was reported by journalist Any Ngo.
