New Zealand has moved to ban the sale of all assault rifles and semi-automatic weapons in a move that will tighten the country’s gun laws.
In an announcement made on Thursday, the New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, said that all weapons used in last Friday’s terrorist attack in Christchurch, will be banned.
Ms Ardern also said that all high-capacity magazines and devices similar to bump stocks will be prohibited.
Although the move is only a temporary measure, it is expected that the ban will be made permanent once new legislation is submitted and passed in Parliament in April.
