Under strict new measures to tackle the rise in sexual assault, the state will also issue the death penalty to anyone found guilty of sexually assaulting a child under the age of 14.

It is understood that the laws have been put in place after calls for tougher sanctions against sex offenders from women’s groups.

The new laws which have been described as “drastic penalties that are required to help further protect children from a serious crime” by the state’s governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai, will also see women having their fallopian tubes removed if they are found guilty of sexually assaulting a child.

It is reported that the new laws have been introduced following public anger over the rise of sexual assaults during recent Covid-19 restrictions.
