No backing down: Donohoe says there is no room for a pay increase and the current deal for nurses is attractive

The Minister for Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform Paschal Donohoe has reiterated his stance on the going issue amongst Irish nurses.

According to RTÉ News, Mr Donohoe has said that there is no room for an increase as it would create a knock on effect amongst other public sector workers.

Mr Donohoe also claimed that the current pay deal is attractive as it offers continuing increases over the next two years as well as flexible working hours and overall better entitlements than those working in the private sector.

However the INMO and the Psychiatric Nurses Association say the current agreement isn’t working as it is becoming more difficult to retain staff in the sector due to overall pay.

The Finance Minister’s comments come as 35,000 Nursling staff across the country are to hold a series of stoppages later today and then again in early February.
