No end in sight – Heatwave to last another week and possibly considerably longer

We could get used to this!

Anyone remember the snow in March? No, us neither!

This is the latest forecast by Met Eireann, which says that ‘warm or very warm conditions’ might lead to ‘drought, or near-drought status’ across many parts of the country as the heatwave will last 5 to 7 more days and possibly considerably longer if we continue to get similar weather to Britain which has a heatwave predicted for another two weeks.

Temperatures are forecast to reach 27-28C today, Monday, and over the next few days.

Met Eireann has issued a new weather warning for extreme heat (for Ireland), affecting Munster, Leinster, Cavan, Monaghan, Galway, Leitrim, and Roscommon. The warning remained in place until late last night.

People are being asked to conserve water by not leaving taps running. Some car wash attendants in Co. Louth have noted that their facilities have been severely affected by the heatwave and one told The Liberal that they had to turn a number of cars away due to simply having not enough water to wash the cars.

All in all, other than gardens and crops – we are getting the best summer in living memory. Enjoy!
