There will be no extra Bank Holiday this year as it would be ‘too costly’ for businesses, according to the Government.

The idea of adding an extra Bank Holiday later this year had long been bandied around, and had received strong support from the tourism sector, which has been badly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

But somewhat inexplicably, the Government has now ruled that it would be too costly, even though the tourism sector had expressed the exact opposite.
