“No, it’s not good enough for them” – Up to 50% of houses offered to host Ukrainians are turned down after being reviewed

Up to than half of the houses pledged to by the public to host Ukrainians aren’t suitable for people fleeing Ukraine, the cabinet has been told.

It’s understood the houses were vetted and “are not good enough” for the Ukrainians to live in.

So far there have been 20,719 listings but the government estimates that only 40-50% of these properties will be occupied.

Since February 25th, more than 18,600 Ukrainians have arrived here.

Between 26,000 and 32,000 arrivals are expected by the Easter weekend.

Many people are saying that background checks are being carried out on houses for the Ukrainians but next to no background checks are being carried out on actual Ukrainians coming into Ireland.
