No, never heard of him: Stoneybatter suspect was not known to gardaĆ, O’Callaghan claimed

According to the Minister for Justice Jim O’Callaghan, the South American migrant who has been charged in relation to Sunday’s attack in Stoneybatter, which left three men badly stabbed, Gabriel Fereira Motta Valladeres was unknown to the gardaĆ and was not requesting asylum or international protection, reports RTE.

After the knife incident in Stoneybatter, Gabriel Fereira Motta Valladeres has been charged.

It has been said that the three men, who were in their mid-20s to mid-40s, had “slashing-type injuries” as a result of the violence, reports RTE.

“It is understood that the man is homeless and originally from South America,” Minister Jim O’Callaghan had stated on RTƉ’s Morning Ireland.

He said that although there had been a brief encounter in 2023, the individual “hadn’t really been brought to the attention of the gardaĆ before.”

According to the minister, it was “horrific for the three men brutally attacked” and a “shocking experience” for the local population, reports RTE.

According to the minister, the gardaĆ informed him that the attacks were arbitrary.

While Mr. O’Callaghan stated that “we can never have too many gardai” and expressed satisfaction with An Garda SĆochĆ”na’s response to the event, he also acknowledged that having a garda on every street is not practical, reports RTE.

He went on to say that he is not aware of any garda public order units being scaled back.

The minister said gardaĆ told him the attacks were random.

“What appeared to happen is the individual went along the streets – the three locations were Oxmantown Road, Carnew Street and Niall Street and the three men who were attacked were just, unfortunately, in a position where the person was passing by at the time and it was horrific for them,” reports RTE.
