No sign of improvement: Wet and windy weather expected for the rest of the week as a low pressure system slowly makes its way across the country

The wet and miserable weather looks set to stay for the coming days ahead according to Met Eireann.

Following prolonged spells of set and windy weather on Monday and Tuesday, the national forcaster has warned that conditions will remain unpleasant up until at least the weekend.

In an announcement made Tuesday, Met Eireann say today Wednesday will see further heavy showers along with cooler temperatures.

Although the majority of the rainfall is expected in the South East and the East of the country, Met Eireann say it is expected to move further northwards on Wednesday evening and into Thursday.

The National Forecaster also say temperatures will range from 7-10c in Eastern areas, whilst they will be somewhat cooler in the Midlands.

It is believed that a current band of low pressure which is moving up from the South West is the cause of the wet and windy conditions.

Met Eireann say it could be a number of days until we see weather conditions improving as the low pressure band is slowly making its way across the country.
