Lord Henry Mount Charles confirmed last night on the Ray D’Arcy Show that there will be no Slane concert this year. The man who started the concerts 35 years ago said that they family are concentrating on a distilled whiskey they’re starting in the castle and that they can’t focus their attentions on both this year.

Mount Charles divulged that having been in remission from cancer, unfortunately he was diagnosed again in January but that the new drugs he’s on are working for him.

He spoke fondly about the concerts that were held in the castle, with particular emphasis placed on Thin Lizzy, U2, Springsteen and everyone’s favourite, Freddie Mercury.

Along with the aforementioned musicians, Mount Charles spoke about various wild nights Mick Jagger had prior to playing, a special private set by Bruce Springsteen, and a friendship with Adam Clayon and Brian May.

If you’re looking for an outdoor gig this year, you’re going to have to look elsewhere than Slane Castle.
