“Not all of us are scroungers!” – Social welfare recipients hit back and say that they want to work but can’t work for various reasons and are entitled to a Christmas bonus

Social welfare recipients have hit back at criticism that they’ve received for getting their Christmas bonus paid in the first week of December.

They say that not all of them are so-called “scroungers” and that the majority of people on welfare want to work but are not in a position to do so or are unable to do so.

It’s quite a contentious subject, some people are very happy for social welfare recipients to be paid a Christmas bonus, while others say that PAYE workers get nothing for their effort of holding down a job.

Social welfare recipients will be paid their Christmas bonus in the first week of December, it’s been confirmed. The double payment will be sent out to thousands of people on the dole, starting the first week of December.

This year’s Christmas Bonus is likely to be paid to welfare recipients the week starting December 5, it has emerged.

The Christmas Bonus amounts to double the normal social welfare payment.

People across Ireland will receive several cash boosts this winter to help offset the rising cost of living.
