Not happy! Martin bows to public pressure and will NOT be holidaying in America for St Patrick’s Day

Micheal Martin will become the first Taoiseach in living memory to NOT travel to the United States for a St Patrick’s Day event with a sitting US President.

The Taoiseach’s planned visit to the White House will not be going ahead with alternative measures being looked at, including some sort of video call.

Martin was forced to undertake massive public pressure from Irish citizens to not go to the States given the fact that we’re in a Level 5 lockdown with €2,000 fine per person for non essential travel.

According to RTE News, the White House and the department of the Taoiseach are looking at alternatives with a virtual meeting between Mr Martin and President Biden expected to take place on March 17th.

The news comes after a White House official confirmed that they would check about the annual St Patrick’s Day visit.

Speaking about the visit on Thursday, White House Jan Psaki said that there are currently limited events at the White House but she was happy to check about an event that usually happens in March.
