Officials at Notre Dame Cathedral have revealed that the vast majority of donations promised by some of France and the world’s biggest billionaires have yet to be received.
According to The Associated Press, officals tasked with looking after the ancient cathedral have revealed that despite the initial promise of donations by the world’s wealthiest businessmen, it is individuals from France and the US that has donated the most since the disaster two months ago.
Speaking to AP, the senior press official at Notre Dame, André Finot, has said that none of the biggest donors have yet to offer a single cent despite pledging to do so in the immediate aftermath of the fire.
Finot who has thanked the people of France and those throughout the world for their kind donations, told AP that the big donors have yet to hand over any money as they want to see what their money is being spent on and they are not going to hand over money just to pay salaries.
Although Finot said the church is grateful for the donations that they have recieved and to those who are working day and night to repair the building, he revealed that the church has recieved far less than what was previously promised.
