The National Public Health Emergency Team have said that the current Covid-19 situation is improving but it is too early to tell what impact Level 5 restrictions is having on the spread of the virus.
Speaking this evening, the Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan said the situation is improving but he and NPHET are concerned about the high incident rate amongst the elderly.
Dr Holohan said that it is too to tell how Level 5 restrictions have impacted the spread of the virus but said the overall situation has improved.
He warned that the public must continue to follow guidelines and protect the most vulnerable in society.
Meanwhile Professor Philip Nolan has revealed that the Reproductive number is now close to being at 1.
Although he warned that the number still remains high, it is indication that the spread of the virus is in decline.
