On the cusp of history: Katie Taylor looks to claim another title as the best in Irish boxing prepare to fight in Philadelphia

Ireland’s Katie Taylor could very well make history in the early hours of Saturday morning as she looks to become the first Irish fighter to hold three belts at the same time.

The WBA and IBF title holder from Bray, is looking to add the WBO world title to her collection as she takes on Brazil’s Rose Volante in Philadelphia later tonight.

In what could be a great weekend for Irish boxing, Dublin native Jono Carrol, will look to upset the home crowd as he takes on Tevin Farmer for the IBF World Super-Featherweight title.

Meanwhile John-Joe Nevin will also look to continue his unbeaten run as he takes on Andres Figueroa in front of a 10,000 strong crowd.

Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of her potentially history making fight Taylor, said she is prepared to go the distance with her fellow undefeated opponent Volante, even though she would love a stoppage victory.

However the Bray native is well aware of the challenge that is ahead of her, saying that she knows that her opponent will also be ready to do everything she can in order to secure victory.

Before adding that she is really looking forward to the fight, which Taylor says should be a great one.

The action will get underway at a 11pm tonight on Sky Sports main event.
