One of Limerick’s older bridges closed after worker finds old grenade

Thomond Bridge, one of Limerick’s older bridges, was closed earlier today after personnel doing renovation work found what appeared to be an old grenade.

The worker, who was inspecting the lower archways at the time, spotted the object in the water at low tide. He picked it up before realising it could be an explosive device.

A bomb disposal unit was called and the bridge was closed as a precaution.
