A service station in Co Carlow has run out of fuel after experiencing what it described as “unprecedented” demand, driven by the low prices it was offering to motorists.
The Spar Ballon N80 service station kept its prices under the €2 mark for as long as possible, and as a result exhausted its diesel supply, with three days’ worth of fuel sold in just one day on Saturday, reports Breaking News.
In a post on social media, management said: ‘The level of sales over the last two days was unprecedented. And as a result we have run out of diesel,” reports Breaking News.
They also apologised to customers for any disruption caused, reports Breaking News.
“We will be restocked, as soon as delivery can be arranged. Thanks everybody as always for the huge support. And have no worries, our fuel prices will continue to be as low as we possibly can keep them going forward”, reports Breaking News.
Fuel costs at forecourts had climbed as high as €2.30 per litre for diesel, while petrol reached €2, amid the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, reports Breaking News.
Last week, the government introduced tax reductions on petrol and diesel as part of efforts to ease the burden of rising prices.
Excise duty was reduced by 20 cent per litre of diesel and by 15 cent for petrol, with the measures set to remain in place until the end of May, reports Breaking News.
