OPINION: Distracted by politicians pushing Gay marriage, Abortion and Immigration, this generation lost focus of and now can’t afford a new starter home to settle down and start a family

The main social issues pushed by politicians in recent years were were Abortion, Open Borders and Gay Marriage.

The younger generation of Irish citizens rallied around these causes with great zeal. Many were expecting that the politicians would reward them in some way for their support.

Now this same generation of young Irish have quickly realised that they have been Humped & Dumped by those same politicians who are more focused on building 35,000+ free houses for immigrants than providing home security for the Irish community.

The FFG coalition government routinely talk on news shows about their “Help to buy” scheme. This scheme allows an individual or couple to claim back the previous 4 years of income tax to offset their first home purchase. The scheme is capped at €30,000.

A starter home in a rural Irish town now costs €383,000.
Assuming a couple have 40,000 as a deposit and have tax to offset of 30,000, this young couple will be facing a mortgage of €313,000 for the next 30 YEARS. Assuming interest rates stay low at 2.78% APR, the total cost of the mortgage including interest works out at €483,998.

Meanwhile, our current government are falling over themselves meeting builders and other stakeholders to build 35,000+ free homes for immigrants.

This generation of young Irish people blindly followed the political social agenda on immigration, abortion and gay marriage. Now they have been Humped & Dumped by those same politicians who seem not to care whatsoever about the Irish community and their plight to have a secure, affordable home to settle down and start a family.

As the younger generation of Irish people were distracted by political campaigns of IMMIGRATION, REPEAL AND MARRIAGE EQUALITY, they took their eyes off the ball and now find themselves renting forever, in sub-standard, expensive accommodation with almost no hope of ever aspiring to owning their own home and settling down to start a family, Humped & Dumped by their own political parties.
