Opinion: Garth Brooks sold out his Irish fans by playing matinée shows in Chicago

Garth Brooks is playing two concerts a day in Chicago… the so-called “start of his world tour”.

The man clearly has amnesia because just as the ultimatum of playing matinee shows in Ireland was put to him, he sahd that a man nearing his mid 50’s wouldn’t be able to do them. He went on to say a man in his 40’s, 30’s or even 20’s couldn’t do two shows a night… yet here he is.

Irish fans had hotels booked, seats on buses ready, plans were made. He was offered facilities to get all the five comcerts done, but he said no to matinées. He used this excuse to leave 400,000 people sitting on their hands this weekend.

The Croke Park residents had a right to complain. Five concerts over five days is probably a bit too much to handle. Dublin City Council are the epitome of what’s wrong in society. Their actions could have saved the gigs by not only reassuring the residents, but by compensating them accordingly.

The bottom line is, Garth Brooks painted one picture-a picture of him looking out for his fans, while another picture lay waiting to be hung in Croke Park.

Garth-if you can play two gigs a night in Chicago, you could have played them in Dublin…
