OPINION: The Gardai would have kicked lumps out of the Burkes if the camera weren’t there – they’re a disgrace to their uniform

I must say that I have never been as ashamed of An Gardai in a long time.

Going by yesterday’s behaviour, they’re blatantly all nothing short of thugs.

The last time their true colours were shown was February 26th 2006 when they beat lard out of people on O’Connell St. But perhaps yesterday’s antics where a female Garda was so heavy handed with Enoch Burke’s sister that she ended up flung on the ground.

The defenceless Ammi Burke was extremely lucky that herself and her family had cameras pointed towards them. One can only fear that besting they would have received from those scumbags in uniform had the eyes of the country not been on them.

The Gardai used to, repeat used to, have a good reputation of being community guardians of the peace where they knew their locals and where both parties where mutually liked and respected.

Welcome to 2023 however where the good ones are few and far between. The vast majority only care about their pay packet, their roster and by many accounts, their drug fuelled parties.

It’s a shame that the element of Garda the country witnessed on Tuesday gives the decent ones such a bad name. These Gardai shouldn’t be allowed wear the uniform, they’re no better than the criminals they’re actually meant to be out trying to catch.

RTE reports that Enoch Burke shouted “leave my father alone” and called the gardaí “thugs”.
