Inflation is really eating into our lives since the pandemic. From price rises an the grocery store to price rises in our energy bills, we’re all seeing huge price hikes.
Many working class Irish are now faced with a stark decision. Do we eat or heat?
The governments inaction on treating this inflation emergency is at a snail’s pace. In the north of Ireland, citizens there will be receiving €237 (£200) towards increased energy costs whilst here in the south of Ireland, the well-heeled Irish politicians throw the working class a paltry €100. The political class refuses to reduce their tax take on any commodity.
Just this week, RTE reported that those who are already paying extortionate rents have seen rents increase 10% in 2021. In another article this week, they highlight the plight of a family in Wexford.
Anna Keogh told RTE;
“Myself and my partner both work full-time. We won’t be able to think about having another baby.”
“Between childcare, between clothes, nappies, formula and everything that comes with it we wouldn’t be able to have two on both our full-time wages”.
