Police in the UK have arrested a 26-yr-old man on suspicion of murder following the death of former Conservative minister Ann Widdecombe.
Devon and Cornwall Police said officers were called to an address in Haytor at 11:40am yesterday, where they found the 78-yr-old with serious injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police confirmed they had arrested a white British male.
Widdecombe, who served as prisons minister, left the Conservatives to become a Brexit Party MEP and later acted as a Reform UK spokeswoman. She also gained wider public recognition after appearing on Strictly Come Dancing.
Detective Chief Inspector Ilona Rosson as saying: “This is an extremely tragic incident and our thoughts are very much with the family and friends of Ann Widdecombe at this difficult time”, reports RTE.
“Our murder inquiry is in its early stages but moving at a significant pace. We are deploying all of the necessary resources to find out exactly what has happened and to locate the person responsible who we believe to be a white male.”
