Organizers of the Ironman Triathlon in Youghal, Co Cork, have announced that the event will not take place in 2024, reports RTE.

This follows the death of two contestants in August.

Canadian Evan Chittenden, 64, and Brendan Wall, 45, of Co. Meath, died after taking part in the race, reports RTE.

Both died in separate incidents. They faced difficulties when they were participating in the swimming section.

Athletes complained of terrible conditions during the sea swimming portion of the event, reports RTE.
