It looks like motorists will be in for more hardship in the coming months ahead as latest reports have revealed that the price Car insurance is set to go up by further 20%.

The costly news which will surely see motorists nationwide outraged comes after An Oireachtas Committee examining the rising costs of premiums discovered that the average Irish motorist is paying more than double the price of their original premium within recent years.

The sharp and unjustified increase has prompted the AA to issue a warning saying they expect further increases over the next six to nine months. Latest figures have shown that old and young drivers are the worst hit by the price increase.

The appalling increase for older drivers in particular has prompted Justin Moran of Age Action Ireland to question insurance companies motives claiming it is blatantly unfair to class them as dangerous drivers, Mr Moran said: “The reality is that research shows the exact opposite of that, that older drivers tend to drive more slowly, they’re less likely to drink and drive, less likely to speed, less likely to take drugs.”

“In Ireland, 22% of driving licence holders are over the age of 60, yet they get less than 10% of the total number of penalty points.”
