Russian authorities have begun an investigation after 27 pairs of hands were found inside a bag that washed up on the shore of a popular fishing resort in Siberia.
The rather bizare discovey which happened in Khabarovsk in the Far East of Siberia, has prompted authorities to launch investigation as to where the 54 hands may have come from.
According to The Siberian Times newspaper, the hands were found by a fisherman who was on fishing trip to the Amur River which is close to the border with China.
Although no official explanation has been given as to why the hands washed up on the shoreline, authorities in Russia believe the victims could have had their hands cut off as a form of punishment for theft.
Other theories being mooted by authorities suggest the hands could have been cut off the corpses of the recently deceased.
It is understood that almost all of the hands bar one had no fingerprints, however authorities say they hope to obtain further information after testing is carried out on the one hand that contains fingerprints.
