Outrage after it emerges that almost 5,000 children born in Ireland during 2018 have not been vaccinated against measles

There’s widespread outrage today, after it emerged that almost 5,000 children born in Ireland during 2018 have not received immunization against measles.

There were 76 confirmed cases of the infectious disease across Ireland during the same year.

The HSE have reiterated the criticality of this issue, and it’s recommending that all children receive their vaccinations on time, to prevent an outbreak of diseases that were considered eradicated.

The issue of vaccination becomes particularly crucial if unvaccinated children are due to fly abroad. Over 350,000 measles cases were reported worldwide in 2018.
