The news that Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly has travelled to Dubai on a government trip has been greeted with outrage throughout the country.
According to RTE, Donnelly swanned off to Dubai at a time when the country is crawling out of the pandemic, after nearly two years of restrictions that have crippled businesses and devastated families.
Donnelly was accompanied by the Secretary General of the Department of Health Robert Watt. In recent days his salary has been the subject of controversy as it emerged that he had taken a pay rise of €81,000, bringing his salary to €294,920.
Social media users have reacted with fury to the situation, demanding that Taoiseach Micheal Martin make a statement, explaining why this trip is taking place at all.
