It’s emerged that the total spend on advertising in the Taoiseach’s department went up by a staggering 250% last year.
According to the examiner, reports show that the spend went from €71,000 in 2017 to €1.8 million in 2018. That’s an increase of some 250%!
The staggering increase is part of the government’s strategic communications unit that was launched in 2018 but finished a couple of months later when it was accused of being just a spin machine for Taoiseach Leo Varadkar.
It’s understood that vast amount of money was spent on social media pumping out the government’s message to the Irish public. In a time for many people still finding it very difficult to get out of the recession, it’s being perceived and social media as absolutely outrageous that this an out of taxpayer money is spent on the Taoiseach’s office.
