There was bad news for workers at Dunnes Stores in Gorey last night as the Mandate trade union announced that over 100 jobs are to go at the store.

According to the union staff from the store were called to a meeting yesterday evening where they were told that the outlet is to close. However the news has not been officially confirmed by Dunnes Stores who refused to issue a statement regarding the issue.

Meanwhile the General Secretary of the Mandate Union John Douglas has said that workers are deeply concerned. Mr Douglas said: “Our members were called in this evening just before they finished their shifts to be told that the store was closing,” said Mr Douglas. “It is a modern store in a modern shopping centre and they were given no explanation other than that the company would cease trading from this evening.”
He added: “There are over 100 workers in the store and they are extremely concerned.”
