The Tánaiste Joan Burton has said she does not believe in making “macho decisions ” and has strongly insisted that the government would benefit from having more women around the Cabinet table.

The Tanaiste made her comments whilst she was speaking at a women’s executive network breakfast, However Ms Burton said she was not criticising all men and said not all of her male counterparts rush and make rash decisions, nor does she believe  that women are always deliberate and sensitive. Ms Burton added: “Generalisations are dangerous, but I think many of you will agree that we often approach things differently than men whether in the boardroom or in the workplace or, for that matter, in Cabinet – and decision-making is better from having our influence there.”

The Tanaiste did however recognise that gender quotas were difficult for women to accept but said they make up just 15pc of TDs in the Dáil and strongly believes that the number is “simply not enough”.
