Clashes between protesters and law enforcement officers happened once again in the French capital as crowds took to the streets of Paris for the fifth consecutive weekend to oppose the government’s proposed security reforms and more.
A crowd departed from the Place du Châtelet in the city centre, just in front of the legendary Ile de la Cité, towards the Place de la République in the northeast. According to media reports, hundreds of people joined the march. The protesters carried a large banner that read: “Stop freedom-killing laws, Stop Islamophobia.”
Over 100 people were arrested but those in attendance say that they’re planning more and even bigger rallies for the French capital.
Police officers were reportedly seen beating some demonstrators with batons. One activist beating a drum was seen visibly injured in the head in one such incident.
