
In the first five months of this year, almost 14,000 prescriptions for antidepressants were written for people under the age of eighteen, according to HSE statistics, reports Breaking News.
BreakingNews saw these figures.According to the Freedom of Information Act, 14,638 prescriptions were written between January and May of 2024.
Of those prescriptions, 11,250 were written under the General Medical Service (GMS) program, which gives people access to surgery and medical care if getting such treatments would put them in an excessive amount of difficulty, reports Breaking News.
Under the medications Payment Scheme (DPS), where you and your family only have to pay a maximum of €80 per month for certified prescribed medications and medicines, 2,584 prescriptions have been granted.
In accordance with the Long-Term Illness Scheme (LTIS), 804 prescriptions were written. Through this program, consumers may obtain some medications, pharmaceuticals, and medical apps at no cost.
36,578 prescriptions for antidepressant medicine were written for patients under the age of 18 in total in 2023.
6,267 were awarded under the DPS plan and 28,323 under the GMS scheme. 1,998 under the LTIS were distributed, reports Breaking News.
