Over 34,000 motorists have had their NCT certificate declared invalid following a systems error.
It is understood that the certificates were declared invalid after the testing facility discovered an error that saw two year certificates being issued that are over 10 years old.
NCT officials say the error occurred due to the extension of existing certificates in 2020.
Officials say that those affected by the glitch will have their current certificate replaced with a new certificate.
They added that free tests will be offered to motorists who purchased a vehicle with a longer NCT duration.
