90-yr-old Paddy Lyons was murdered in his remote rural home in Ballysaggart near Lismore, Co Waterford on Saturday.
Today, 26-yr-old Ross Outram from Ferryland, Clonmel in Co Tipperary, appeared at Dungarvan District Court having been charged with his murder.
The judge granted the accused free legal aid after gardai gave evidence of his arrest.
90-yr-old Paddy Lyons is said to have received bad injuries prior to his murder. A neighbour, also his carer, found the elderly man slumped in his armchair on Saturday.
Paddy Lyons is said to have been well known and liked in the area.
