A number of people on social media are posting images of their local shops and supermarkets claiming that they’re buying more than normal in order to “stock up”.

A read of The Liberal, Rita Clarke, sent up the above photo saying that she was in Tesco in Blanchardstown shortly before noon and that there was hardly any bread left on the shelves.

She said she asked a member of staff and was told that since the weekend, people are buying excessive amounts of bread and milk with the staff member presuming it was to do with the coronavirus outbreak.

Rita told The Liberal:
“I have been keeping a careful eye on the news and have been reading all article about the coronavirus, especially the breaking news ones, and I think people are genuinely stocking up in case things get significantly worse.”

“My fear is that the government and health officials are holding back the true extent of what’s currently happening but more importantly what they really believe is going to happen”.
