Parents of Madeleine McCann reveal why they didn’t take part in the upcoming Netflix documentary series

The parents of Madeleine McCann have spoken out about the upcoming Netflix documentary series which will explore their daughter’s disappearence in Praia de Luiz, Portugal, in 2007.

Ahead of the release of the eight part series later this month, Kate and Gerry McCann have said they chose not to take part in the series despite being asked repeatedly.

The parents of Madeleine who went missing when she was just three years old, said the don’t believe taking part in the documentary would help Madeleine, but instead it could potentially hinder the search for her as an active police investigation is still ongoing.

The McCann’s statement reads as follows: “We are aware that Netflix are planning to screen a documentary in March 2019 about Madeleine’s disappearance.”

“The production company told us that they were making the documentary and asked us to participate.”

“We did not see – and still do not see – how this programme will help the search for Madeleine and, particularly given there is an active police investigation, it could potentially hinder it.”

“Consequently, our views and preferences are not reflected in the programme.”

“We will not be making any further statements or giving interviews regarding this programme.”
