According to his family, an 11-year-old child sadly passed away after attempting the popular social media activity known as “chroming”, reports The Mirror.

Due to the struggle, Tommie-Lee Gracie Billington experienced a heart attack on Saturday. According to his grandma Tina Burns, Tommie-Lee was at a friend’s home when the terrible incident happened, as reported by the Mirror.

In order to become “high,” those who participate in the chroming craze—also referred to as “huffing” or “sniffing”—inhale harmful substances including paint, solvent, aerosol cans, cleaning supplies, or gasoline, reports The Mirror.

Abuse of the inhalants slows down brain function and affects the central nervous system. This may trigger a heart attack in addition to slurred speech, nausea, dizziness, hallucinations, and disorientation.

Tina spoke for the first time since her grandson’s death, saying: “He died instantly after a sleepover at a friend’s house. The boys had tried the TikTok craze ‘chroming’. Tommie-Lee went into cardiac arrest immediately and died right there and then. The hospital did everything to try and bring him back but nothing worked. He was gone,” reports The Mirror.

According to a TikTok representative, there is no proof that chroming is a challenge unique to the app or that it has become popular there.

Tommie-Lee went into cardiac arrest at 12:30 p.m. on March 2 and was discovered unconscious at his friend’s home in Lancaster, England.

He was taken to the hospital immediately for emergency care, but the doctors were unable to save him. According to Lancashire Police, there is now “unexplained” cause of death, reports The Mirror.
