Parents warned that soothers and blankets could be banned from childcare facilities when they reopen

Parents across the country have been warned that a number of items including soothers and blankets could be banned once childcare facilities reopen.

Speaking to RTÉ’s Prime Time programme, the CEO of Early Childhood Ireland, Teresa Heeney said the way childcare facilities will operate could be potentially changed once they reopen.

Heeney told the programme that a number of outside items including soothers and blankets could be prohibited in order to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

Ms Heeney revealed that the way children play and take part in activities could also be changed in the interest of safety.

The Early Childhood CEO also told the programme that certain activities including dressing up could be removed from creches across the country.

Although no official plans have yet been put in place Ms Heeney said that alternative plans and activities would have to be implemented before creches could begin to operate.
