Parents warned to be on high alert over abduction fears after man posing as HSE worker called to home of disabled boy

The Health Service Executive is warning people they were called to the home of a disabled boy after a man claimed to be an HSE worker to ask for ID when someone called their home, reports The Mirror.

The warning comes after an unidentified man called to the home of a parent whose child is on disability support in the Louth/Meath area of the Midlands in late May.

The man claimed he had taken a parent’s child out of the home with the HSE for support.

In a warning letter to parents via the newspaper, the HSE said: “The man knew the boy’s full name and he was wearing a mask and a hat. The mum reported that she was immediately suspicious and asked the man to present his ID,” reoorts The Mirror.

The letter stated: “He did not provide any identification and left,” reports The Mirror.

In a statement to this newspaper, the HSE confirmed it was aware of the incident and that it had reported it to gardaí and Tusla.

“HSE Midlands Louth Meath Community Healthcare Organisation was made aware of an incident late last month where a person claiming to be from the HSE i.e. Home Support worker, called to a home to collect a child for an out of home support provision. When the person was unable to provide ID, he left. HSE staff providing out of home support will only call upon prior arrangements in place. HSE staff carry photo ID,” the statement said, reports The Mirror.
