Partners of pregnant women and new mothers can escort them to maternity hospitals for checkups and other medical appointments, according to plans to be announced later today by the government.
It’s understood that maternity hospitals across the country are taking a unified approach after criticizing that different hospitals have different rules.
The Taoiseach had previously told the Dáil that restrictions on couples accompanying women “proven to be a very difficult issue for many people, and I acknowledge that.”, RTE reports.
Asked by Labour Party leader Alan Kelly, Micheál Martin said he would speak to the HSE on recommendations made by HSE clinical director Dr Peter McKenna say maternity wards should be open and that there should be uniformity across the country.
